While traditional roller shades require manual upkeep and maintenance. In certain spaces, the shades are hard to reach because of the sheer size of the window. In such cases and otherwise, motorized shades come in handy. It’s fashionable, modern, sleek and provides a fancy touch in particular when they’re being opened. They are automatic and can adjust themselves accordingly, based on the light and time of the day. There are also remote controlled options.
History behind roller shades
Roller shades were largely used in Holland so it’s a common understanding that they were invented in Holland as they were prevalent as early as the 17th century. They made its way to America much after the country’s independence, sometime during the 1980’s. The oldest invention to roller shades was paper. This was made with a certain kind of translucent paper which then evolved to fabric. Artists from all over the country would paint and create beautiful designs on fabric that added a special effect to the lights. The most common roller shades are the spring rollers where the sheet/fabric is rolled out and forms a cylindrical like tube on the top when not in use. These were mass produced and soon became popular across the country. There are many outlets now over the world like Home Depot, Lowe’s and Store Urbain.
The easy cleaning and maintenance procedure of roller shades
- Dusting
This is the most basic form of cleaning where you can use a dusting brush to give it a relatively more clean appearance. It’s the most hassle free way of cleaning shades on a daily basis.
- Washing
This allows you to inject the fabric with a cleaning solution that will thoroughly remove all dirt and impurities. This can be done in the comfort of your home so you don’t have to be bothered with removing the screen altogether and taking it someplace else for servicing.
- Gentle scrubbing
In this method, you just have to use a damp cloth or wet sponge and just gently dab the screen in order to avoid crumpling or damage to the fabric.
Once you’re done with cleaning your fabric in liquid, you have to tilt the screen in such a way that you drain off any excess water and then leave the shade open so it can dry off completely. Roller blinds in contrast to venetian blinds hardly collect any dust, making it the best choice.
