When you go on holiday to America, you naturally want to see as much as possible. If you visit the states by plane, you will see much less than when you travel through America with the camper. We have listed a number of tips for you to travel with a camper through the US.
Where do you start and end your journey?
It is good to find out in advance where you want to start your journey and where you want it to end. For example, consider busy airports such as in San Francisco and Los Angeles. If you want to explore the Pacific Northwest, fly to quiet airports such as Portland or Seattle. If you prefer the Southwest, then fly to Salt Lake City, Las Vegas or Denver. This avoids the long queues. With the auto locksmith alabaster this is the best bit now.
Reserve early
The prices for renting a motorhome can vary on a weekly basis. This is mainly due to the period in which people want to travel. It is therefore good to know that you reserve the camper far in advance. It is even possible to reserve the camper a year in advance.
Book a hotel for the first night
By law you are not allowed to drive a camper immediately after a long flight. It is therefore important to spend the first night in a hotel. Also book this in advance so that you do not have to search for a place on the day itself. Certainly in the summer months it can be difficult to find an available hotel room. The motorhome rental company can possibly arrange a transfer to the company from your hotel.
Keep in mind that you have to pay a considerable amount as a deposit which you will get back at the end of your trip if no crazy things have happened. A mandatory instructional film will show you all the rules of the camper and how to use the camper. After this you can use it and your holiday starts. Think about all the groceries you still have to do.
Make a route planning
Indicate in advance the route you want to drive with all the sights that you do not want to miss. But also ensure there is enough rest on the way so don’t be too fanatic. The distances are difficult to estimate if you want to be able to see everything on the way. Therefore, plan your routes well, so that you do not arrive in the middle of the night at the place of your destination.
Reserve a pitch
You can already reserve this from the Netherlands, but this can also cause a certain pressure. You cannot change your route spontaneously. In most cases campsites do have room for you, but it is advisable to reserve this a few days in advance.
Weather
The weather can vary a lot in the US. Check in advance the states you want to visit and the climate. You can then take the climate into account when packing your bags. What really can’t be missing in your suitcase are a pair of good walking shoes. A tip; walk it well in advance. This prevents all kinds of discomfort while walking. In the months of July and August there is the ‘monsoon season’ in the Southwest. During the monsoon season, stormy thunderstorms occur almost every afternoon.
See bears on the road
America is in possession of many wild animals such as; foxes, deer, raccoons, spiders, eagles, wapis and squirrels. You will come across this in the morning and evening. But you’d rather not come across a bear. At many campsites they have a ‘bearproof’ cupboard where you have to put your food in that smell nice. This attracts bears. If you come across a bear, heavy with a stick or with your arms and start screaming loudly, this deters most bears and they will run away.
