  • The gun has to be at a correct distance from the surface while painting: There is a particular distance that needs to be accounted for while painting. This can range anywhere between 10-15 inches with an average of 12 inches to stay in the safe zone. If you keep the gun too close, it can result in dripping and if you keep it too far, it’ll result in unevenness.
  • Keep the gun perpendicular to the surface while painting: It’s important to hold the gun at the right angle to ensure that the paint is sprayed evenly across the surface. Do not tilt the can towards the left or right; keep it stable through each stroke. Too much swinging or movement will cause irregularities in the pattern.
  • Once the trigger is pulled, keep the gun moving: If you pull the trigger while the can is stationary, it will cause excess build up of paint in only one area. This can happen before or after each stroke.
  • Overlap spray patterns: Usually, the pain is mostly concentrated on the centre of the pattern and less on the edges. Overlapping does away with disproportion in paint distribution.

Airless sprayers and their sizes

  • The tip size is determined by what solution is being sprayed. The larger tips speeds up the painting but can end up being very untidy. Small tips are used in areas where oil bases are concerned.
  • The 517 is a quality tip that is used by most specialized painters. They are excellent in distributing excess paint but due to the high pressure, you have to move the gun at a fast rate. There is another substitute which is 515. This permits you to have more control over the gun so you don’t have to significantly increase or reduce the speed while painting.
  • Air sprayers are powered by electric motors or gasoline engine. The gasoline ones are quite potent and are used in a large classification of paints. The potency here can be well served in spraying very thick paints such as Elastomeric paint. Some companies like Spray-Net offer weatherproof coating. The electric ones are far more flexible, making it the favourite choice of most painters.
